Equalize

by David 21. December 2010 10:31

Over the next weeks I will lightly cover some of the heightmap adjustment features available in TerreSculptor.
Currently there are a wide variety available: Altitude, Clamp, Crop, Despike, Equalize, Erosion, Filter, Flatten Edges, Interpolate, Invert, Luminance, Normalize, Resample, Size, Smooth and Void Fill; with even more planned for the next version of the software.
Each of these adjustment features are available in immediate mode, which modifies the "main" stack base heightmap, or on the world creation Stack for modifying other stack heightmap or mask objects.

Equalize provides a 7-control-point spline-based curve editor for modifying the relative altitude layout of the heightmap.  The allows modification of a heightmap's altitude for adjusting the relative mountains and valleys, providing such simulations as glaciation.

This is a screenshot of the initial Equalize dialog.

This is an example of a DEM file before and after applying the glaciation equalization shown above.
